Citizens' Police Academy

The Evans Police Department regularly hosts Citizens' Police Academy programs for local residents. The academy has promoted community partnerships by engaging Evans' citizens in the practices of the police department since 1997. This informative program is a ten week experience that provides insight to the public about police department responsibilities and internal operations. The academy is designed to open channels of communication between citizens of Evans and their police officers. It is also a means by which citizens can develop an understanding of the police role in their community. The academy's objective is not to make officers out of citizens but rather to enlighten citizens with an accurate knowledge of the department's responsibilities and functions.

Citizens Police Academy classes are one night per week between the hours of 6 and 9 pm.  Most of them are held at the City of Evans Community Complex (1100 37th Street) but there are field trips to other locations such as the outdoor shooting range, the Weld County Jail, and the Weld County Communications Center.

If you are interested in taking part in this exciting program please contact Officer Michael Yates at (970) 475-1145 or myates [at] ci [dot] evans [dot] co [dot] us or pick up an application at the Evans Police Department.
