19.02.010 Title for citation. This Title 19 shall be known and may be cited and referred to as the "zoning code," and may hereafter be referred to in this title as "this zoning code" or "this title." (Ord. 005-00: prior code 15.03)
19.02.020 Purpose of provisions.
A. The zoning regulations and districts, as herein set forth, which have been made in accordance with a comprehensive zoning study, are designed to:
1. Lessen congestion in the streets;
2. Secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers;
3. Promote health and general welfare;
4. Promote adequate light and air;
5. Prevent overcrowding of land;
6. Avoid undue concentration of population;
7. Facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewage, schools, parks and other public requirements.
B. The zoning regulations and districts have been made with reasonable consideration, among other things, as to the character of each district and its suitability for particular uses, with a view to conserving the value of buildings and encouraging the most appropriate use of land through-out the city.
C. For the purpose of this title, certain terms, phrases, words, and their derivatives shall be construed as specified in this chapter, or in the building code. Words used in the singular include the plural, and the plural the singular. (Ord. 005-00: prior code 15.03)
