Burn Permits [back to top]
The City of Evans has adopted an ordinance restricting open burning within the Evans city limits. This ordinance prohibits all open burning with some exceptions for burning of irrigation ditches and fence rows; and small ceremonial fires. Burn permits for open burning exemptions must be obtained from the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment and the Evans Fire Department. The Weld County Department of Public Health is located at 1555 North 17th Avenue, Greeley, CO and their phone number is (970) 304-6415.
The Fire Rescue Department may perform an inspection for any open burning permit application. For more information on obtaining an open burn permit call 339-3920.
Smoke Detector Program [back to top]
The City of Evans Fire Rescue Department maintains a limited supply of smoke detectors. These detectors are available for use by residents who are experiencing economic difficulty, and who would otherwise be unable to obtain a smoke detector. Inquiries can be made by calling 339-3920.
Volunteer Recruitment [back to top]
Our community is served by a combination type fire department. Our staffing includes both volunteer and paid personnel. Our members work hand in hand to provide the highest level of service and protection to our customers. Our members receive comprehensive
training, which covers a wide variety of topics. We train our members to become certified as State of Colorado Firefighter I and II. We also provide training necessary to our members to become certified as either a First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician. Many other specialty training topics and certifications are offered to our members. If you feel you would like to explore opportunities with our organization, application packages can be obtained at Fire Station #2 at 2100 37th Street in Evans. Information on volunteering can be obtained by calling 339-3920.
Fireworks [back to top]
It is unlawful to possess, store, offer for sale, sell at retail, use or explode any fireworks within the city. Contact the Fire Marshal at 475-1117 for more information.
Child Safety Seat [back to top]
The City of Evans Fire Rescue Department offers Child Safety Seat Inspections. Inspections are completed at Fire Station #2 which is located at 2100 37th Street. Inspections are done by appointment ONLY. To make an appointment please call 339-3920. According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, "More than 81% of child restraints are used incorrectly, including 88% of forward facing toddler seats, 86% of rear facing infant seats and 85% of safety belts." Please ensure your child's safety by calling to schedule an appointment.
Emergency/Severe [back to top]
Presently, two emergency sirens are maintained by the City for use in notifying our citizens in the event of a confirmed tornado. The sirens are located at 3918 Denver Street and 2100 37th Street. These sirens are tested each spring. Prior to these tests, a notice will be placed in the Greeley Tribune. Citizens are advised to be prepared and know what to do in case of an emergency. It is wise to keep a three day supply of food and water on hand. It would also be wise to keep extra personal hygiene and prescription supplies on hand. It is also recommended that every household develop and practice an exit from the home drill. Participants should know several ways out of their residence, and should report to a prearranged family gathering location. Persons wishing assistance with developing their plan may call the fire department for assistance at 475-1117.
Fire Hydrant Clearance [back to top]
A 5-foot clear zone must be maintained around each fire hydrant.
