This seven (7) member advisory board is appointed by the City Council and meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:15 pm. Duties include review of matters pertaining to the policies and development of the City’s parks, cemetery, forestry (Tree Board), and recreation programs.
The Parks and Recreation Commission was established by resolution in January, 1983, and the following outlines the commission's powers and duties:
A. To act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and the Departments of Parks and Recreation regarding matters relating to parks and recreation including, but not limited to, the City of Evans Parks and Recreation Master Plan, the Trails and Open Space Master Plan, and park and recreation facility rules, policies, and regulations.
B. To formulate recommendations relating to outside activities utilizing City parks and recreational facilities.
C. To advise the City Council and the Departments of Parks and Recreation regarding procurement of land and development plans, both present and future, concerning parks, trails, recreational areas and recreational or natural open space within the City.
D. To develop and recommend criteria for recreational and aquatics programs.
E. To advise, develop and recommend rules and regulations for the Evans Cemetery.
F. To act in the capacity of the Evans Tree Board and to commemorate annually the celebration, of Arbor Day by planting a tree on City property with cooperation from the City Forester.
G. To make recommendations concerning the purchase or disposition of trees, shrubs, vines, hedges, or plants located upon the public right-of-way of any street, alley, sidewalk, or any other public place in the City.
H. To make recommendations concerning policies, rules, regulations, and specifications concerning the trimming, spraying, removal, planting, pruning, and protection of trees, shrubs, vine's, hedges, and other plants upon the public right-of-way of any street, alley, sidewalk, or other public place in the City. Upon adoption by the City Council, copies of such policies, rules, regulations and specifications shall be available to the public through the office of the City Clerk and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
I. To report finally through the Parks and Recreation Staff to the Evans City Council an annual report on the status of parks, forestry, recreation facilities and programs and the Evans Cemetery.
J. To make recommendations on any related subject as requested by the City Council
